Make It Look… Simple
Something you probably weren’t expecting, right? Having a professional resume these days comes down to a simple, yet easily read resume. There’s nothing worse to read for an employer than to read a cluttered, messy and unorganized resume. When you’re making your resume look great, don’t be afraid to space it out. Give the reader some room to breathe when they’re reading it.
Get Rid Of The Gaps
If you’re like anyone else on the planet Earth, you’ve probably had a dry spell when it comes to having a job for any numerous reasons. That’s fine, the question is what do you do? Here are some great reasons for your time off work:

- College / University Study

If the person in question asks, any of these points are great reasons to tell them why you’ve been away from work. Be sure to avoid raising health problems as that will make the employer question if you are ready to work or not. The reason why is because if you are using a template properly, you will need to know which specific skills and achievements to mention. Researching your company is more than going to the home page on their website. Go into the “About” section, and any where else you can to pick up on details that others might have missed to give you an upper hand for the reader to see. Always keep your research up to date with each and every application so your resume looks genuine.
Forget About References
I don’t know about you, but when I was younger I was always told to put references on my resume. But now it seems to be something that it slowly fading away. One of the great things I learnt is to leave references out. This also leaves space for more important information and other attributes and skills, rather than wasting space. References are now usually asked for when you go to an interview. It’s going to do wonders for your resume, trust us.
Stay Positive And Personal
This may seem quite obvious, but unfortunately a lot of people don’t know how to sell themselves in their best light. By staying positive, you are focusing on what you can do for the employer. By keeping the context in first person, such as “I am”, it gives a much more confident attitude by reading it. Don’t fall into the trap of just bullet pointing your attributes, it makes it impersonal and robotic.
